Important Questions (and answers!)

Why do we fast?

Fasting is a spiritual practice that Jesus talked about—and practiced Himself (Matthew 4). Throughout Scripture, people fast for many reasons: repentance, prayer, seeking guidance, or during difficult seasons. At its heart, fasting is about intentionally drawing closer to God by setting aside distractions so we can better listen to Him.

I’ve never fasted before—is it hard?

Fasting can be challenging, but it’s absolutely doable—especially when you start in a way that fits where you are. Fasting isn’t about perfection; it’s about humility and dependence on God. Even small steps of sacrifice matter to Him, and He honors a sincere heart.

Giving up certain foods (or things) feels overwhelming—what if I can’t do that?

That’s okay! A traditional fast (like the Daniel Fast) isn’t for everyone, and it can be adapted based on your health, lifestyle, or dietary needs. If you have medical concerns, please talk with your doctor first. The goal isn’t a specific rule—it’s choosing to give up something unnecessary in order to make more room for God. Pray and ask God what He is inviting you to lay down during this season.

What if I mess up during the fast—should I quit?

Not at all. God’s grace is bigger than our mistakes. If you slip up—whether it’s food, screen time, or something else—simply acknowledge it, receive God’s grace, and keep going. This journey isn’t about guilt; it’s about growing closer to God with an honest heart.
